These sites usually fill up by early Friday before a holiday weekend. Cal Expo RV Park is exclusively for RV camping and tents are not permitted.
To Recreational Option Near Ice House Reservoir
RVs and other licensed/registered vehicles, including trailers and motorcycles, are welcome. However, please remember that RV filling from piped water sources in campgrounds and day-use areas is not permitted. From Pollock Pines, CA, take Route 50 east 8.3 miles to the Crystal Basin Recreation Area sign. Turn left at sign onto Icehouse Road and go 10.8 miles to the Ice House Campground directional sign. Turn right at the sign onto Forest Route 32, then go 1.1 miles to an intersection with a campground/boat rampsign. From Placerville, drive 21 miles east on Highway 50 to the Icehouse Road turnoff.

When making reservations be sure that your vehicle will fit in the space indicated on the reservations website. Information is available at the Crystal Information Station east of Union Valley Reservoir on Ice House Road during the summer. Horses and motor vehicles are not permitted on the bike trails at Union Valley Reservoir.

Remnants of the days of the California Gold Rush can be found all around the region. Angel Creek – At an elevation of 5,300 feet, Angel Creek is a peaceful oasis located at Gerle Creek Reservoir.
The climate is similar to that of the Mediterranean with warm, dry summers and cold, wet winters. The First Come First Serve sites located at this campground remain listed as FF for the entire season. They will not show occupied/available as the status of these sites is ever changing. You must be on site at the campground to claim a FF site.
Devils Fork State Park
Reservations are recommended throughout the summer, especially during large events at Cal Expo, including the California State Fair. Campgrounds stretch in all directions from Sacramento. There's camping close to the city and several more options within a one- or two-hour drive. These nearby landscapes include the likes of Folsom Lake, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and two national forests. We've used other campgrounds since, but we always wind up coming back to Ice House.

Beal's Point also caters to RVs with an additional 20 full hookup sites available. At 5000 feet elevation, it’s real mountain camping but with amenities. Devils Fork State Park campground is along the shore of Lake Jocassee. The area allows visitors on boats to drive to remote islands and see sites of waterfalls splitting into two lakes. Water lovers should stay at these campgrounds if they’re looking to get some good swimming in. Reservoirs, lakes, and the sort generally allow swimming, and many of the stunning waterfalls offer some sweet swimming holes.

Campsites at both Steele Canyon and Pleasure Cove feature picnic tables, fire rings, and access to potable water. Coloma Resort provides luxury camping and upscale outdoor amenities next to the South Fork of the American River, under an hour from Sacramento. This private campground is near the Marshall Gold Discovery Site and features tent and RV camping. The resort also offers spacious cabins and a reservable country cottage. Sly Park is a very popular family campground on the weekends. Reservations are available and some sites are known to book a year in advance.
The 190 campsites at Sly Park are spread out between 10 different campground areas. The campsites cater to tent campers and RVs up to 40 feet in length. Special sites at the recreation area include waterfront sites and a "Pine Cone Strip" area that books up fast for summer weekends. Auburn State Recreation Area also features a campground only accessible by boat on Lake Clementine, where visitors find a boat launch, marina, and day-use swimming area.
